Came across this antique watch case at auction. 
As it appeared to be watch key wound it places its style during the 1860s.
The name Jacot Brothers Locle was found to be a Swiss watch maker from the period. 
Most folks are not aware that buying a Watch at the time came in stages. You would purchase the face and guts as one piece, then choose a case, then a chain, and any other accessories to follow on the chain. Not too different from purchasing a cell phone today.
This piece should be a perfect project to add a functional watch to or even convert into a photo case for carrying in the field.
